International Pet Transport: Moving Cats from Pakistan to the UK

Monday, April 27, 2009 by Rachel Farris

Hello, I'm in the UK and I have a pet cat in Pakistan. He is 2 1/2 years old and mixed Persian. Kindly guide me how I can transport him here. Thank you. - A.

We often get requests for moving pets to and from the Middle East.  These relocations can be facilitated however due to the sometimes remote locations, it can usually add to the overall cost.  Additionally, it can be difficult for people who are moving with pets to the UK to obtain the proper documentation in order to avoid quarantine in the UK under the PETS Scheme

Moving a cat from Pakistan, you would not be able to avoid quarantine in the United Kingdom -- your cat would have to quarantine for 6 months.  If you wanted to avoid the quarantine, you could send your cat to somewhere that is considered to be under the PETS Scheme, like the US, for six months and keep him with a friend or family member.  Frequent international pet transport like this can be hard for a cat, though, so you might want to consider going directly to the UK with the quarantine option.
