QUESTION: Hello. I understand that if i travel from Saudi Arabia to the United Kingdom that my cats would need six months of quarantine but are you able to tell if there any European countries
that i can travel to from Saudi Arabia and not have to put my cats into six month quarantine?
ANSWER:
Hi Ian,
Thanks for your email. There are many European countries you can travel to that do not have a six month quarantine. However, the UK is rabies-free so no matter where you come from that is not rabies free(the EU, US, SA, etc.) you will have to do a six-month quarantine.
The UK developed the PETS Travel Scheme where you can do a pre-quarantine at home. There is more information on it on their website:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm
This way, you can avoid putting your cat into quarantine and instead do a blood test, wait six months and then send your cats to the UK, where they will be immediately released.
This can be an overwhelming process for the average pet owner. Our company specializes in assisting people with shipping pets to the UK and I encourage you to contact the head of the UK department, Matt Kincaid, if you would like further assistance.
He can be reached at: matt@petrelocation.com
Please let him know you were referred by me.
Good luck!
Happy travels & wagging tails!

QUESTION: Rachel, thank you. to clarify the pets procedure....if I follow the PETS regulations in one of the countries listed and live/work there for at least six months then if I return to the UK my cats would not need to do the 6 month quarantine in the UK. Have I got that correct please? Ian
Answer
Hi Ian,
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, you are correct: If you follow the PETS regulations (they are very specific so please pay close attention especially with regards to the order in which things must be done), you will not have to put your cats into quarantine upon arrival in the UK. They will be directly released to you.
Good luck!
