Hello, I will be moving to Cairo with my dog in late August. When contacting the Egyptian Consulate in D.C., I was told that I will need to send my USDA approved certificate to the State Department (for authentication) and then to the Consular Section in D.C. If this is needed within 10 days of departure, how is this possible? I haven't seen anyone mention this on any of the pet relocation sites.
Thank you very much! Lori
Hi Lori,
Thanks for your question. We have sent several pets to Egypt and have never had to get the State Department to Authenticate the documents and the Consulate to stamp them. Oftentimes these offices have out of date or incorrect information.
The process typically requires a USDA Form 7001 issued by a USDA-accredited veterinarian, which then needs to be sent to your State USDA veterinarian (this might be where they got the "State Department" from) for their endorsement. We typically send these documents by FedEx to get them done within the 10 day window, however you can also make appointments to take them in person. For a complete step-by-step guide on how to obtain the 7001 and get it endorsed, please see our blog entry entitled "All About the Vet Health Certificate (Form 7001)."
Happy Travels!
