You've gone online to search for a puppy and stumbled across a free Yorkie puppy named "Romeo." Or maybe an adorable English bull dog puppy with droopy eyes, or a free Pomerianian puppy named "Candy." It might even be a free Persian or Siberian kitten. The owners of the puppy aren't asking for any money -- except for the shipping costs.
Sometimes there's a sad story that goes along with the puppies. The puppy's owner will tell you that their daughter died, and it was her puppy, or that they are adopting an orphan and won't have time to care for the puppy.
They'll ask you some questions, meant to pull at your heartstrings and make you want to qualify to get this free puppy:
Where are you located?
Are you a breeder?
Do you have kids?
Can you also promise that you will take good care of him/her?
But they want some money to ship the puppy, and they want it sent as a Western Union. Many times they want you to send this Western Union to somewhere like Douala, Cameroon in Nigeria. Sometimes it will be California.
Every day, PetRelocation.com takes phone calls from people who have been victims of puppy scams. It all seems so reasonable, just to pay the shipping costs. People want to know how much PetRelocation will charge to arrange the shipping and we have to explain that there is no puppy. The puppy scammers will not release the puppy to a reputable company like ours because the puppy does not exist. They only want to get your money, however small amount, in cash.

I soon found out it was a scam. Please do not get fooled by these people.

Yeah I nearly fell for this, had me going right up to the part were they ask me to send money by western Union, I new right then this was a scam.
I also saw an ad on the gumtree website and replied to it and the next day it was deleted.
the persons name was Pilla Louis and I responded to an ad for siberian husky pups for sale $200.00 includes shipping and postage. Pup comes with everything.
If it seems to good to be true it usally is.

Like so many others we almost fell for this scam.. Thankfully we thought it was a bit too good to be true and before we made any payments we searched the internet and found this page. THANK YOU for doing this!!!!
We found an add on a swedish website and after contacting the seller she told us she lived in liverpool.
After realizing how fooled we'd almost been I've searched a lot of different pages where people sell animals and found more then 100 adds that seems to be from the same person that almost scamed us. I've now posted warnings on all these pages. Hopefully that will keep some others from being tricked.
Not only did these people send me an e-mail from a fake transportation agency but they also called me to make sure I've received it.

How I found out and Suggestion:
It was suspicious, the price for the puppy was too low, and you feel that they play with your emotional, but are not so intelligent; I asked for more pictures, for names and addresses, for a copy of the animal's documents, the Vet's name and address, kept asking simple things, and had no reasonable return or excuse, you will see that you don't receive anything.
I learned the lesson; it's about taking some advantage, wanting to pay a few bucks... I'll pay a bit more and will have a real one.
I almost fell to the scammers and Pet Transpot Agency. Last week i answered an ad in my local newspaper for a free bischon friese puppy. I resopnded, and the scammer replied that he trusted my with his darling puppy to me and i just needed to pay the shipping of $253.00 to the pet delivery agency. They wanted my contact info: phone numbers, address, etc. When I replied with my own questions as "why did you post in the local Tampa newspaper that the dog was local, and you are really in West Virginia with the puppy?" I had a bad feeling that this was a scam, which since then, the scammer/s have not replied to my questions. Now i find this site with similar stories. Thank goodness I did some questioning. Beware of something for nothing!!!!

recently found out one siberian husky ad on aspost.com saying one female husky looking for adoption/sales...then i was so interested and start contact the owner, then the owner claims that he is located in singapore and would like to use the agency to ship the husky over to malaysia and keep asking the detail plus MYR1000 shipping fees...after few round of correspondence, i start using the owner email to check onlin e see whether there is a scam.....and i managed to find out the info to have people experience the scam and loss their money, i'm here to ask support team favorite delete the ad to avoid any person who might possible to be cheated by this scam email.

I am looking for 2 Sphynx kittens and I found them for free here on the internet. The lady said that she has just moved and can not keep them. She says that she works for the Army. I emails have had two different addresses, and three diferent names. She says that she is from White Settlement Texas, but when I looked her name up it came back as unfound. I tryed one of the other names which is a mans name and it came back found but in a different part of Texas. She says that she is going to be going through a pet relocation agency to ship the kittens to me. She says they will be here tomorow and that the agency will contact me for a payment tomorow morning. But when I asked her what agency she was going through she said there are a few different ones that hse is looking into. She did say that it will only cost me $200.00 for both kittens to be shipped. Is this a scam?
This is definitely a scam - do not send them any money. Typically if it comes from a free email address (@live.com, @gmail.com, @Hotmail.com, etc.) it is a scam.

My family and I are out on a vacation to Spring Island Cameroon some few weeks back to see my brother and his family who works with the (HEIFER PROJECT)here in Cameroon but the climate here is not favorable for our lovely puppies so our vet office advice we send them back to Canada and the only way to do this is to look for them a new home.There are two of them both male and female.We intended to enjoy the Christmas season here with them.We really regret doing this but that is all we have to do to save their lives, all we want is their happiness and welfare. Our two year old daughter Nicole would have love to grow up to see them but we just regret all what is happening to us.To tell you a little bit about myself,I am married,have a daughter and guess what;I am expecting my second baby in a few days from now. The puppies are 13 weeks and 14 weeks old, female and male respectively..Very friendly to children and other home pets,very healthy, vet check and you have nothing to worry about as they are de-clawed,home broken and have an amazing personality.They also have very good toilet manners.They get along very well with cats. all papers are under preparations and all their toys too are here, they will also be coming with a cage, all shots are up to date, we will really want some one who will love them so much, so that when we come back to Canada in some few months from now, we could always visit you to check on how they are doing. My wife Leticia will prefer free adoption so that any resources you were suppose to use in buying the puppy,you will instead save it and use in caring for the puppy when it arrives.If you promise to take them for free, but show them love and all the affection in the world, then my family and I will be very grateful o..k. I was looking for an English Bulldog on petfinder.com. I found an ad that had four puppies to a good home. When I clicked on it the link took me to puppyloumg.com and I sent an email asking if the puppies were still available. This is what I received. I keep saying he but before I spoke to him I assumed it was a woman because the email supposedly came from a Nancy William. When I answered the phone I knew immediately that it was all a scam. His english was poor, he wanted me to wire the money to his son in Cameroon at the Univeristy of Buea, and then he would send me the puppy. I told him that I was not comfortable with wireing the money overseas and would need to discuss it with my boyfriend he then sent me this email. Everyones stories are about the same. I knew it was a scam when I heard his voice. First he was located in Texarkana Texas then he said Quincy Illinois. I am heartbroken we were going to get this puppy for our four kids for christmas, we lost two of our family pets alittle over a year ago after having them in our lives for 11 years or so. Our hearts have healed now after that loss and ready to have another dog again and this happens. I want to say these people should be ashamed but that would require one to have a heart which clearly these people don't. I have almost been tricked by such a fraud as the ones said. I read your advice on pet sellers that are frauds and the seller asked me the exact same questions and to send her the money through Western Union. We were contacting each other through e-mail after I found her on an ad on the internet. I was looking to buy a Teacup Yorkie for Christmas. I had a bad feeling about her because she said the puppy was "free." I knew there was some sort of catch to her offer. I asked for more pictures on her puppy she said she would give me for "free." She sent pictures of her "puppy" and her "daughter" and had asked for my information (name, address, city, state, zip, etc.) and the nearest airport near me to ship her "puppy, Lina" to me. I gave her my information. I asked her if she could send the "puppy" first, due to fraud occurences through internet access, and that I will send her the money after I receive the puppy since the "puppy" is "free" anyway. She said it was no problem, but that she had contacted the airport and that they asked for $550, and that she only had $450, so she needed the other $100 from me. She had already told me she was spreading the word of God as her job as a preacher and that she is so dedicated to her work that she has hardly time to care for her "baby, Lina" (her "puppy"). At first when she said the puppy was free and that she would ship it to me, I thought she meant she would pay for the shipping, too, since she told me she didn't want money and that all she wanted was just a loving home for "Lina." I said ok to that and I said I wanted to send her money as a "Thank you" for her free gift to me. She replied to me with her account information through Western Union with 10 digits MTCN and to put whatever donation to her my heart told me to. She then had brought up shipping cost of $100 after I brought up about shipping the puppy first to me and paying after I received it. She said she didn't have the leftover $100 necessary for shipping and that she needed it from me. The puppy was supposed to be shipped from Cameroon, Yaounde (where she was preaching at a church as her new job location) to me in Tolleson, Arizona. She said the sooner I send her the money, the sooner "Lina" will have to be sent on the next flight available to me. After that, I decided to check out if she was a fraud. I am a teacher in an inner city school in CA.. I happen to overhear one of my students talking about getting a Yorkie and it was going to cost $110 to fly it here. This is a student who worked odd jobs to earn the $110 dollars to get the dog for her mother this Cshristmas. Unfortunately for her, I thought there was something phony about the deal and asked her were it was coming from. She told me Victoria Island, Camaroon. I knew immediately that $110 wouldn't be enough to fly a dog from Africa. Luckily I found your web site and read your article about the dog scams to her. She was in tears but didn't lose her money. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I am facing a potential pet scam issue here but if you guys could kindly enlighten me on this that would be great. The thing is I have been looking to adopt a cat for a while now and I contacted a person through an ad posted about free kitten adoption last week... I can't remember which site I found that contact from but the person did write me back the following day and shared that he has five kittens to give away for adoption. He lives in the UK and the reason he no longer wants to keep them is because he lives alone and couldn't look after all five and so he wanted to adopt them into permanent homes. So he actually asked me if I wanted to personally come down and collect the cat from him or perhaps meet up prior to him adopting the cat to me. Unfortunately due to the fact that I live in Singapore, I told him that wasn't quite possible and he said that's alright as he could always arrange to have the cat air-delivered to my home address via the continental airways which he said was fast, reliable and that it also provides free life insurance for the pet which is good for both him and me. He said all the necessary vet documents and transfer of ownership details will be sent to me, and he needed to know my full name, address, contact numbers, etc, and when I actually wanted to adop the cat. He did not pose the classic question if 'I was a breeder' like what most of your experiences have... he also did not pressurize me into making a snap decision right away and he sent me many pictures of his cats upon request. The pictures do seem very credible because the cats are the same cats in all the pictures, he even has pictures of them being carried, him grooming them, them playing with each other and sleeping etc. He did say there has been a lot of attention on his five kittens and people have been snatching them up like crazy, and he just told me if I wanted to adopt from, then let him know which ones I wanted and he'll get back to me. So I emailed him and requested for more pictures, and he provided them accordingly. It was hard coordinating the emails with him because we live in different time zones but we emailed each other over the course of three days. I emailed asking him if it was possible to adopt perhaps a male and a female kitten from him, and he replied and said out of the five he had, he has currently picked out two particular ones for me and he asked me if I wanted those two. He sent me pictures of them to help me decide. The kittens' names are Boston and Nancy. I replied saying that I wanted Nancy and not Boston, but the very next day I changed my mind and told him I didn't mind taking both since Boston was such an adorable cat too. However, I was a bit too slow and he said unfortunately because I had told him I didn't want Boston, he had already adopted Boston out to the Oritz family that very afternoon and he apologised for that. He emailed me telling me that the family actually said Boston was very feisty which was news to him, as he thought Boston was always a very shy cat. He said out of the five, he still has Nancy and another cat called Sebastine left and if I wanted those two, he will be happy to adopt them to me. I agreed and I asked him if it's possible for him to wait for a few days before delivering them to me. He said he would be happy to wait until I was ready as all of his cats have been adopted out over the past week except for the last two. He emailed me later saying it's funny how several families have approached him wanting to adopt those final two but he refused and they couldn't believe that the cats had already been adopted out to me. He wasn't pressurizing me at all and this makes it even harder for me to decide if he is indeed legitimate or not. He told me later that he had checked with the agency and they said shipping to Singapore for both cats would cost $400 in total. He broke it down in detail for me and he said the registration was $100, the electric crate to ship them would be $100 for both kittens (which he said was refundable upon delivery), transfer of ownership documents was $120 for two kittens and finally the feeding during the flight was $80. When he mentioned the payment I was quite surprised as he didn't mention them at the start when I first enquired about the kittens. So I asked him why wasn't I informed earlier (I already had a strange feeling as I have been reading about your pet scams on here). He emailed back apologising as he said he had forgotten about that and so I told him I was too broke being just a college student and all so I can't possibly fork out $400 bucks when the whole point of 'adopting a cat for free' is basically not having to pay anything and being able to rehome an animal. He wrote back saying he was complaining at the agency that it was too expensive and he said he will cover half the cost for me if money was a problem for me. I haggled with him and said maybe I should just adopt one cat and not two from you after all, since costs are definitely an issue for me if I adopted two. I managed to convince him and he eventually relented and told me he would be willing to cover the costs for me and he would accept just $100 from me. I told him that given the fact I will be taking care of his two cats for the long-term, I would be spending more than what he was actually paying now to have them sent to me... hence I asked him if he could cover two-thirds of the cost for me. Either that, OR I'll probably just take one cat from him instead of two. He replied that he would be willing to accept just a hundred from me and he will still send both cats to me, no worries. Now, I have a few concerns regarding this. Firstly, if he was indeed fraudulent, would he have willingly allowed me to negotiate the price with him and agreed to cover the costs for me? After all, don't fraud sellers all want to rip off their 'customers' and the more the client pays, the better for them? And the classic scenario would be, they would keep demanding you to pay more? But in this situation, Mr Sanchez was willing to eat into his own expenses when I told him I honestly couldn't pay him $400 and he eventually agreed to let me pay him $100 for both cats even though I told him I'll just take one now, in view of my tight finances. Being well-versed with pet scams I emailed him and told him I wouldn't send him money via western union or money gram, and if there were other any more reliable ways I could send the money over to him, such as via paypal perhaps, I would do that. I asked if he would kindly accept that. He said unfortunately the stupid agency only accepted western union, and seeing that I was just a student and not a working adult, he asked me if I knew how to use a credit card and he would be happy to guide me along this transaction, or if I had an adult or a parent who could help me with this, it would be better. It makes me wonder because if he IS indeed a fraud, I highly doubt he would actually propose asking me to get a parent to help, wouldn't you think? Also, if he was a fraud seller, would he have told me Boston was adopted out? Won't ALL fraud sellers make the animals always available for you prior to making payment? But for this case, he actually said Boston was adopted out and he offered me a replacement if I wanted to consider, with the pictures to back it up (and take note that this comes with the risk that I might decline and end the transaction once and for all). I just think it is a gamble on his part to be lying that he no longer had Boston available for adoption to me, because wouldn't a fraud seller WANT to make the options available for their client just to ensure they followed through with their transaction? The trouble is... all evidences currently seem to be pointing towards the fact that he IS genuine and legitimate in his dealings. So anyway I told him I wouldn't feel too comfortable just settling this transaction without speaking to him on the phone first. As such, he readily called me just this evening and spoke to me briefly. He told me that I had to send the money to cameroon and IMMEDIATELY I thought, fraud alert, watch out. I told him I didn't trust cameroon and why cameroon, of all places? Because most pet scams or in fact all are from Cameroon and I asked him if there were alternatives. He was speaking in a thick african accent and I couldn't quite make out what he was saying on the phone but I could see he was trying to explain to me best as he could. So he said it's OK he'll email me the details and in the email he apologised about the confusion and said the agency is called Venture Pet Express and that they have been receiving payments through that ever since constructing their new branch in Cameroon. I asked him didn't he know that most pet scammers get their clients to send money to Cameroon? He was confused and he said he didn't know but that was how he transported the other three kittens and that payment was done the same way for them. He even told me since I am worried I can check that payment is sent to this address: Name: Liachem Tangu Country: Cameroon Zip code: 00237 State: Buea City: Molyko He even mentioned that if the agency emails me and gives me a different address than the one he provided, I should let him know and NOT send payment to them as he's aware there could be fraud involved. However, he said he trusts the one he gave me and that he wasn't worried about them. I could tell he was an African based on his accent when he spoke to me. I received two emails from the agency and apparently it's called Venture Pet Express. They have a site at http://venturepets.co.cc/ and their contact email stated was PETS_SHIPPERS_AGENCY@hotmail.com. I searched the net about pet scams and their ID addresses and I can't seem to find any that suggest that the ones I have are fraud... which makes it extremely hard for me to decide at this point. Mr Sanchez's email address is sanchezfeliz@live.com. I'm just wondering has any of you gotten in touch with a fraudulent seller with this same ID user before? I just found another website that has the exact same layout as the Venture Express agency and I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever 'debunked' it and verified if it's legitimate? http://www.pet-transport-agency.tk/ Right now I'm just really concerned about whether I should send the hundred dollars over to Mr Sanchez. He does seem very genuine and clueless and even if there was fraud involved, it seems that the agency is more likely to be the one who's scamming both him and I... rather than him scamming me. I would think even if it truly is a fraud, he doesn't even realise it... but then again, I did remember him mentioning that he's an old man (by that regard, I'm assuming someone in his late fifties and above) but he actually sounded rather young... probably in his thirties maybe? when I spoke to him on the phone. I can't really discern his age due to his thick accent of course but then again I was almost expecting a croak when I spoke to him. I can't stereotype that he's a fraud just because he's African... however, I'm just wondering is it always the case that ALL cameroon transactions are definitely pet scams? Has there ever been any exceptions to this rule... has there ever been any authentic legitimate cases that were done via western union at Cameroon and yet they weren't fraud at all? Right now I have trouble deciding because this website, while it doesn't look that unprofessional, it does look quite convincing and I can't seem to find this page as being written off as a scam on any pet forum page. I really hope someone here could help me and if necessary I will forward you the emails and those sent to me by the agency earlier. Please email me at allumes@gmail.com to let me know. I'm so glad I found this blog in time, for the past 3 days I've been exchanging emails with a "woman" who says she's looking for a new family for their 2 boston terriers puppies, she even send me some pictures of them, offers to send them to me with all their toys, blankets even a vet certificated. And she didn't seems to care that I live in a country far away from USA.
I'm a huge fan of this race and I wanted to be entirely sure that I was really going to get a dog so I was so concerned about transportation fee and how to this "pet transportation agency" will transport the puppies that I made several questions about these issues and her answers were insuficient for me so it all started to get suspicious.
Even so I play alogn with her as far as she assured me she just delivered the puppies to the agency and that they will contact me to tell me how to make the payment. I write her once again to ask for the transport agency information, telling her that I want it to make some research about this agency, their guarantees and that I want it to contact them in their offices... As you can imagine, I'm still waiting for her answer.
Thank god I didn't let them know nothing more than my email, and find this blog on time before I make any payment.

The puppies are current on all shots and worming's and examined by my vet. All puppies are AKC registered and have Champion lines. Each puppy comes with a puppy pack with food, coupons, toys, and a snugly blanket from home with the scent of their litter mates and mom and a scrapbook of their first weeks of life! These guys were all raised around kids, other dogs, and in our home they are well socialized. They do well with other pets, whether they are canine or feline. I have seen this here in our home. (It is a known fact that if you keep a dog away from a cat until the dog is fullgrown, he will dislike cats as soon as he meets them. But I would say that as a general rule, they only bark a couple of times a day, and that only lasts for a very few minutes, sometimes much less. We've found that all I have to do is say, "no! Don't bark!" and look at them seriously, and they'll hang their heads and stop immediately. But then I've also trained them when I tell them "Bark!" they know to bark and they get their tasty little treat. They love this command because of what they're going to get, and I love interacting with them in this way. The second email from this person was just as sweet. This person went through a lot of trouble to make what she is offering sound legitimate, but her email said pretty much the same thing as many found on this website! Thanks again for all the information you all have posted on this site!
I almost was scamed... the person had an ad in the Hickory,NC Charlotte,NC and surronding areas with photos etc. their email address is: latiferbanks@yahoo.com they were also on a pet site called Charlotte oodle. they were giving away the puppies but wanted the shipping fee. they said 200. for 1 puppy and 300. for 2 I told them that I wanted only 1 puppy and when it came time to ship the puppy they wrote me back saying that they were shipping both puppies and I had to pay the 300. I wrote them back and said no I only wanted 1 and refused to pay 300. I have not heard back from them. I wish there was a way to stop this. It's awful. It really crushes your dreams.
