New DEFRA "Pet Travel Scheme"-Approved Airport

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 by Rachel Farris

If you're moving pets to the UK in the near future, you now have a new option as to where you can fly into.  This week, DEFRA approved the London Oxford Airport as the second General Aviation/Business Aviation Airport in the UK for the importation of domestic pets.

Owners of dogs, cats and ferrets can now, for the first time, transport their pets on flights into the airport from overseas under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). A dedicated team on site will then process the paperwork and meet and greet pets and their owners/handlers on arrival to undertake necessary pre-disembarkation check.

Flights with pets onboard can also be cleared through Oxford for travel elsewhere into the UK.
